RARE! Antique Henry Berry Derby Silver Co 1882 Victorian Era Calling Card Tray

$ 78.67

Availability: 100 in stock
  • Condition: Good condition with signs of use as pictured. The tray is somewhat wavy, but looking at past auctions, this must have been by design, as this was mentioned in every listing that I found. It needs a proper cleaning, as I have no silver polish, and just superficially wiped it down. Please view all photos under magnification to assess and verify condition.

    Description

    RARE Antique Henry Berry Derby Silver Co 1882 Victorian Era Calling Card Tray
    Henry Berry was granted a patent for the design this "card receiver" on Feb. 28, 1882, and assigned the patent to the Derby Silver Co.
    This work is just amazing in it's whimsical complexity.  It is also very rare; The only examples that I can find on line are sold in past auctions. The tray measures 7" high and 8 3/4" across at the widest point. On the top of the tray, you see nice detailing with a floral pattern, music bar, and the words, "Should Owld acquaintance be forgot." On the back of the card tray you see an owl perched on a branch with leaves.
    On the base of this is a butterfly with an open wing span and it too is perched on a tree branch.
    Good condition with signs of use as pictured. The tray is somewhat wavy, but looking at past auctions, this must have been by design, as this was mentioned in every listing that I found. It needs a proper cleaning, as I have no silver polish, and just superficially wiped it down. Please view all photos under magnification to assess and verify condition.
    I purchased this piece from the estate of a long time, high end owl collector and will be posting many more incredible examples throughout the week. I will be glad to combine shipping.
