Offered for auction from a recent Estate sale is the following a
VINTAGE 1970’s SOLIGOR WIDE AUTO f:2.8 F=28MM CAMERA LENS  WITH TIFFEN FRONT COVER - ALSO INCLUDES BACK COVER AND CASE -   MANUFACTURED BY TOKINA IN JAPAN --
Below is additional information on this Vintage in very good almost from appearance Minimal if any usage and appears to show no ware as photo shows. The Soligor f 28mm F:2.8 camera lens with an (MIN) in red stamped on the I believe represents (Minolta) cameras   is as received from estate sale.
This  Vintage camera Lens as noted above exhibits minimal if any surface ware, appears to be complete and functional.   Lenses appear to be in good condition when looking out the view port from both directions.  As noted above the set includes 2 end caps to protect the lens, one Screw Top (medal) with the name of (TIFFEN U.S.A.) and one unmarked.  Also included is a zip to close Lens case as photo shows.   I haven’t cleaned the lenses they are as found.
The markings on the Soligor Camera Lens is as follows “SOLIGOR - WIDE AUTO -  LENS MADE IN JAPAN f=28mm - f:2.8 with issue number 17121105.    In the serial number the first number 1 means that the Lens was manufactured at the Tokina Plant in Japan.  The next digit represent the Decade which is the 70’s and the 3rd digit represent the year 1971 if I interpreted the article properly.  On the very back of the lens the following is printed MIN in red which I believe stands for Minolta.  Below I have additional photos and brief information on the Soligor and Tiffen Co’s.   Please view photos for condition. Lens is sold as is.
The serial number on Soligor lenses makes it possible to derive the manufacturer of the lens, as well as the year of production.
In particular, the first one to three characters identify the lens producer, the next digit the decade of production, followed by the year of production.
Soligor was originally the trade mark for the American Allied Impex Corporation, used from 1956 for lenses and later cameras imported from Japan. It imported cameras from Japan and also took control of companies in Japan. Among the first products was Miranda T camera and Soligor lenses.
Soligor GmbH is a German manufacturer of photographic equipment, optics, video surveillance equipment, and personal electronics. Founded in Stuttgart in 1968 as A.I.C. Phototechnik GmbH by Allied Impex Corporation (USA), the company changed its official name in 1993 to match the brand name used on its optical products.
Most commonly encountered products were manufactured in Japan (to quite a reasonable standard-many by Tokina) under the Soligor brand, as well as Miranda (which was acquired by Allied Impex in the 1960s.) The company also seems to have had an association with Vivitar (the T4 interchangeable mount, for instance).
The company is currently located in Leinfelden-Echterdingen, just outside Stuttgart, in Baden-Württemberg.
The Tiffen Company is a company in Hauppauge, New York, U.S. which manufactures filters for photography, and other professional film and photography-related products. Founded in 1945, by Sol Tiffen who brought his brothers Leo and Nat into the business, the company has won several Academy Awards for technical achievements in filtration. Nat Tiffen, as well as Ira Tiffen, each won technical achievement awards.
The company's main competitors are Harrison & Harrison Optical Engineers, Inc., Heliopan, Hoya, Schneider, Formatt, and Lee. Tiffen also owns the Steadicam, Domke, Lowel Light, Davis & Sanford, Listec, Stroboframe, Zing Designs brands and product lines.
